As a law firm based in Tanzania, Rollette and Co is subject to the country’s anti-corruption laws and regulations. Corruption is a major problem in Tanzania, and it undermines economic growth, hinders development, and erodes public trust. As such, we must be even more vigilant in our efforts to prevent and combat corruption.
In addition to the anti-corruption policy outlined above, we will take the following steps to address the unique challenges and risks associated with operating in Tanzania:
Awareness of local laws: We will ensure that all employees are aware of the specific anti-corruption laws and regulations in Tanzania, including the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau Act Revised Edition, 2022, and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, Revised Edition 2022
Understanding of local business culture: We will take into account the local business culture, including the customary practices and expectations, when offering or receiving gifts and entertainment. We will also ensure that our due diligence process considers the local context and any associated risks.
Engagement with local communities: We recognize the importance of engaging with local communities and civil society organizations in the fight against corruption. As such, we will seek to build strong relationships with these groups and support their efforts to promote transparency and accountability.
Zero tolerance for corrupt conduct: We will make it clear that we have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of corrupt conduct, including bribery, extortion, and embezzlement. This policy will apply to all employees, clients, vendors, and partners, and any violation will result in disciplinary action.
Regular reviews and updates: We will regularly review and update our anti-corruption policies and procedures to ensure they remain effective and in line with the changing legal and business environment in Tanzania.
Reporting and investigations: We will encourage all employees to report any suspected corrupt conduct, including any instances of corruption in the public sector or among government officials. We will also work closely with local law enforcement and regulatory agencies to ensure that any reported incidents are appropriately investigated and prosecuted.
By implementing these additional measures and customizing our anti-corruption policy to the specific context of Tanzania, Rollette and Co will not only comply with local laws and regulations but also demonstrate our commitment to ethical behavior and contribute to the broader efforts to combat corruption in the country.
